Meaningful Metrics for Operational Accountability

Actionable KPIs do more than keep score – they establish the foundation for continuous improvement by fostering operational accountability and agility. We recently developed and installed performance-focused KPI dashboards while enhancing a client partner’s supply chain and category management functions. The resulting insights are driving powerful problem-solving and behavior changes, improving inventory efficiency, and reducing COGS. When managed well, meaningful metrics can deliver remarkable results.

KPI deployment or enhancement is integral to many Kormac value creation engagements. Other KPI results achieved in partnership with our clients include:

  • Improved profitability for a chemical producer of plasticizers: Established Results Driven Management KPIs, processes, and tools to improve Operations and Commercial alignment and performance. Reduced downtime by 87% and labor requirements by 33% while improving profitability and safety.
  • Improved operational performance for a high-speed automotive stamping operation: Established a robust Management Control System of metrics, reviews, corrective actions, processes, best practices, behaviors, and tools. Installed Visual Management Boards on the shop floor highlighting KPI targets and results by day, week, and month. Held teams accountable and improved first-piece success by 23% and weekly average OEE by 50%. Reduced overtime from 35% to 15%.
  • Developed Strategy Deployment Process and continuous improvement culture for an oil and gas services company: Chartered and launched 16 projects; established project planning and rapid escalation tools. Developed Operational Excellence strategy, KPIs, organizational structure, training, and recruitment standards. Designed and facilitated global virtual problem solving and planning workshops. Achieved $96MM in cost benefits, $51.5MM in revenue growth, and $15MM in working capital improvement.
  • Improved post-merger on-time delivery for a consumer products manufacturer: Deployed KPIs and established standard work routines and cadences for local management and supervisors. Achieved 15% improvement in on-time delivery during the first 12 weeks.
  • Reduced foundry variability for a leading supplier of metal components to the mining industry: Established KPIs to measure and manage manufacturing performance. Developed sustainable maintenance system and Daily Operating Report for managers, providing visibility into preventive maintenance attainment and productivity.
