Interim Leader
Door Systems
“When one door closes, another opens,” but what happens when a door systems manufacturer loses its VP of Operations? Executives knew it could take weeks to find a qualified replacement, so the CEO turned to Kormac for interim leadership support. Our resulting six-week Surgical Strike provided a management bridge that “held down the fort” while improving plant performance for the next VP.
It wasn’t an easy six weeks. The facility had recently moved and expanded, creating widespread disruption and a significant order backlog. Our interim operations leader brought decades of experience leading private equity-backed manufacturers, so he was ready for the challenge.
To help the plant meet growing customer demand for rail and road vehicle doors, our interim leader focused on:
• Reducing the backlog of work-in-process (WIP) doors
• Mapping and refining the Order-to-Invoice process to improve inventory accuracy and WIP visibility
• Addressing warehouse failures, including late shipments, shipments with invoice errors, inaccurate inventory, etc.
• Refining the capacity model, lead times, and commitment dates
• Addressing general manufacturing shortcomings: quality, layout, ergonomics, cleanliness, speed, tool and consumables inventory, WIP storage, damage prevention, visual work standards, etc.
In his final weeks on-site, our interim leader onboarded the new VP of Operations and positioned him for success. If your company or facility ever faces a sudden leadership gap, we’re here to help. We can provide interim leadership, support recruitment, and ensure a seamless transition to your next leader.
